Putting a Face on Teen Mental Health

Josephine Urbon is a 16-year-old sophomore living in Los Angeles, California. She gets good grades, plays sports, and has supportive parents and close-knit friends… yet she is still one of the many teen girls in the US that has faced anxiety and depression.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, Josephine is sharing her mental health story to show other teens that they are far from alone — and that it is possible to find tangible things that work for you:

“Some people journal, meditate or use mantras, which are really great, but, for me, they weren’t enough. What finally helped was self-care. It sounds superficial to some people, but for me it became a protection – little pieces of daily armor to help face the world.”

Harnessing the power of social media, Josephine created a mental health awareness and support initiative, Self Care for Good. Self Care for Good aims to share real teen stories and create a community of healing for anyone facing a mental health struggle.
